Frankly Friday

You probably won’t agree with me, and that’s fine. But here are the thoughts that go through my head (literally) whenever I hear about politics, the upcoming election, and sports as part of the news. Please don’t hold it against me. I’m just being honest.

You know what? I think politics, as a subject, is boring.

I think the same thing about sports. And yet people continue to blather on about them AS THOUGH THEY MATTER.

Now, you might say, politics DO matter. The country couldn’t blah, blah, blah without politics. You know what I say? WHATEVER! That’s right, whatever!

The country runs itself, and I don’t need anything else to worry about. I vote and all that, but the whole thing smacks of hypocrisy. Because if I could vote for who I really wanted to be President, it would be my Mom.

And it doesn’t really matter. All these blue suits in Congress and the Senate run around like little hamsters and nothing gets done anyway.

And frankly the politicians aren’t in charge, God is, and He’s already the highest power in the land.

So there. I wish people would just shut up about primaries, candidates, and debates.

Blah, blah, blah.

Sports. Now there’s something that really gets on my nerves.

I love listening to WGN out of Chicago for talk radio, but I hate it when the sports come on.

Blah State bleat Blah University by a made-up-word of 16 to 47. Halfback Blah ran a made-up-word play from behind Quarterhind Blah for the fifth three-fifths reverse down EVER in Blah history.

Unbelievably boring. And yet you know sports freaks everywhere are recording everything in a teeny, tiny record book.

I didn’t realize how nonsensical sports were until I started listening to the five minute sports report sandwiched in between real news, masquerading AS real news.

And these announcer guys are BORING! And people treat them like demigods.

“Tell me, George, how long has it been since Wide-Retriever Blah scored a touchback while having on incredibly tight pants and a dubious shirt that looks like it shrunk in the wash.”

“Well, Bob, WR Blah is looking at a world record for being the first man to weld his shin guards to his body while running in that position.”

And people lap this up.

AAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

You know what I vote? I vote people should shut up about sports and stop including it in news reports when IT’S NOT NEWS!

Yeesh.

Hahahaha! You are so funny. I don't totally agree with you, but it's still amusing! ;-)

I have to say, I think politics do matter...blah, blah, blah. If everyone votes it really does make a difference. And, yes, God is in control, but we still have free will. He expects us to use the resources/ talents He gives us responsibly. If we neglect to take an interest, we could end up with a pro-abortion president that changes/ vetoes many laws. Babies will die.

Immigration laws could change. Amnesty could be given to everyone. Violence would change the US drastically. It's bad enough already! It does matter. Our influence can make a difference. Okay, soap box over. ;-)

Sports-- I could care less myself, but I'm TRYING to care. I'm realizing that it's important for me to show interest in the things that my husband cares about. And that means I need to know something about football!! Go Bears!

That's exactly what I'm talking about, Wendy! The last time I checked abortion IS legal, illegal immigrants are streaming over the borders, and there's violence in our streets. We've had record numbers of evangelical Christians for years now, and nothing has changed. Despite all the hoo-hah about conservative, Republican Presidents - it still feels futile, you know? Perhaps my post is more about desperation than I realized - now that I think about it. I tend to think why talk about something that seems like it won't change anyway. Just pray and hope for the best.

I know what you're saying, though. I'm glad you commented! :-)

I love how frank and open you are. I would have been too nervous to write a post like that. Even my spending the night post got some people riled up! ;-) Gotta love 'em.

And I know what you mean. I understand the desperation. I just believe that, as bad as things are now, they could be worse. (Yes, abortion is legal, but partial-birth-abortion is currently illegal.) So we have to do everything in our power, even if it isn't much, to stand against evil.

But prayer-- YES, that is more powerful than the vote I cast. It should definitely be way up there on our list of defensive and offensive strategies!
